Protecting You From Needless Fees
According to the Credit Union National Association, financial institutions are now allowed to post checks that are received on the same day in any order. This means that the largest items may be posted first. This often increases the likelihood of insufficient funds, which generates higher fee income for institutions.
At EFCU, we program our systems to pay as many checks as possible (smallest amount to largest amount) to help prevent our members from incurring fees. Many companies now convert your check into an electronic ACH debit. We also process ACH debits from lowest to highest, however, check and ACH debit processing are independent of one another. For point-of-sale and ATM transactions we pay the items when they are received.
You and your family members can take additional steps to protect against overdrafts by signing up for our overdraft protection transfers with no fee from savings or a Line-of-Credit Signature Loan or a combination of both. To request an overdraft protection authorization form, contact Member Services at ext. 1402.
Through our partnership with BALANCE, EFCU members have access to a free and confidential Checking Account Management Education Program.
This is a great resource if this is your first checking account, or if you are having problems keeping your account in balance. The 8 course self
guided study covers topics from checking account fundamentals and overdraft protection to reconciling your checkbook.
